Zoo Elephants Getting Overweight

According to a recent report by researchers with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, America’s zoo elephants are overweight. The “Post Dispatch” reports, researchers looked at the roundness of elephant’s rumps, and the bulge in their backbones and found three-quarters of the animals to be overweight.  Martha Fischer, the elephant curator at the St. Louis Zoo said that she thinks our elephants are in good shape; however, Rani did gained a bit of weight while pregnant in 2001, and still has a little baby weight left to loose.
