Public Hearing Ordered For New Islamic Center

The Planning Commission recommends to the St. Louis County Council that the entire approval process for the construction of the Islamic Community Center goes back to the drawing board.  Located on Lemay Ferry Road, the one-point-twenty-five-million-dollar center is a seven-year long project Bosnian Muslims hope to be able to worship in and use as a recreational facility.  The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports in April that Islamic Center organizers filed a challenge against a 2010 ruling the Board of Equalization found against the center saying the property tax exemption lapsed when construction on the center failed to meet its deadline.  No date has been set for the new hearing.
