Proton Therapy For Cancer Patients Now Available
A new therapy for some cancer patients is finally available at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The proton machine uses a more precise beam of radiation to zap cancerous cells, sparing surrounding healthy tissue. The “Post Dispatch” reports the 20-million-dollar machine has been at Barnes since November 2011 but a software glitch held up the rollout. The device could be beneficial for patients receiving radiation for cancers of the head, neck and spine.
