New Strain Added To Flu Vaccine

Researchers are hopeful this years flu vaccine with an added fourth strain of the virus, will give better protection this year.  Last year, over 50-percent of Missouri’s influenza cases were caused by an additional strain of influenza B which the flu shots did not protect against.  The “Post Dispatch” reports so far drug companies have manufactured 135-million flu vaccines, 25-percent containing the additional strain of the virus. For those between the age of two and 49 and considered healthy, there is a nasal spray version containing all four strains of the virus.
